"Pick! Pick!" for the local election 05 . 31. 2006

In the local election, voters had to vote on 6 ballot papers and this caused heavy pressure. Therefore, we expected that some voters just vote without conviction about the cadidates or the party, and others even just donkey voted. As a result, the voting rate was very low.

Futhermore, most of voters showed a tendency vote for a specific party, not for the candidate himself or herself, by an evaluation of the cadidates' ability or political faith or election pledges. Thus, we started to doubt whether voting on 6 ballot papers at one time is conducive in making the right decision and wether the election system doesn't force us to vote without time to build conviction about our choice. For finding the solution to these questions, we suggested the proejct named, "Pick! Pick!".

The project "Pick! Pick!" is a performance where the audiences is in a voter's position expericing the voting performance through satire and find the solution by themselves. We developed our own voting system with mock ballot papers and voting tools which help a voter to pick a candidates for those who haven't decided yet.

    Tools for random picking
  • A die which has dots from one to six
  • A pencile which has 6 names of the party on the surface
  • A dart board which has 6 candidate names posted onto a rotating plate.
    Tools for referring others' choices
  • A real-time chat system which can communicate with other voters who are in the next booth
  • A monitoring system which show everything iniside of a balloting booth
We performed twice in the Nabi art center with the project memebers and guest artists on May 31, 2006, and other INP members on June 6, 2006. The project was recorded by photographs and videos and put in order by the report. After the performance, we recorded each participant's responses and inserted the video file in the web and the reports. The responces included the matter and the solution of the local election which the audience fund by themsleves. It is here that the performance has the meaning of awakening public opinion about the elections and inducing voters to participate in solving problems by themselves.
